Traffic Ticket Scam

Published on September 24, 2025

Please be aware of a scam regarding traffic tickets in Florida!

In a recent case, a Florida resident was contacted by someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer from the Volusia County Courthouse. The caller referenced specific details from the individual’s real and actual citation, including the ticket type, fine amount, and vehicle information. The scammer then requested payment via Apple Pay to “remove the ticket” and avoid penalties.

Clerk’s offices do not contact individuals requesting payment or personal information.

If you have actually received a citation in any County and are unsure if it is a scam, do not pay the caller.  You can pay your ticket online through the issuing County’s Clerk’s Office website, or you can contact that county directly.  Unfortunately, the Union County Clerk’s Office can not help you with another county’s ticket.
